As good nannies are hard to find many parents turn to nanny agencies to find an applicant that meets their requirements. This is not as easy as it sounds. By using a nanny agency parents ensure that they do not have to do background checks on applicants. An agency can offer a far more thorough screening process than a parent can conduct on their own. Initial screens that are conducted by agencies involve criminal record checks. The agency also contacts the previous employers of the applicant and asks for a reference. Once an applicant has passed all these checks the agency will accept the applicant. They will then try to place the nanny into a job. Parents are provided with a selection of nannies to choose from. If a parent finds a nanny they like in the selection the results of the screening process will be shared with the parents.
Once the nanny has been selected and placed into the home the agency will keep in touch with both the parents and the nanny. This is because most agencies require the first few weeks or months that a nanny is with a new family to be a trial period. This is a big benefit to the family as it allows parents to see how the new nanny works with their children.
The biggest downside to using an agency are the costs associated with it. However it is a worthwhile investment as it introduces qualified and trustworthy applicants to the family. Other methods of finding a nanny are not quite as safe and secure as this one.
