The Life of a Single Working Mother

It is an indisputable fact that to be a mother is one of the most stressful jobs that one can imagine. It is never an easy thing to do even with a very supportive spouse, although that will make it quite enjoyable and facilitate things. However, one can imagine the case of a single mother that also has to work to cater for the children. For such a lady who is unfortunate to have no spouse for various reasons, the difficulties of motherhood are magnified beyond the normal.

The pressures that such a woman will be facing are only better imagined, as they cannot be fully understood unless experienced. Depending on the nature of work, taking care of the child (or children) is no doubt a serious task. Some employers are not very nice with nursing mothers. If it is a salaried job in a corporate organization, then it may be possible for the single mother to get a maternity leave. Nevertheless, this may not be possible if the work is that of daily wages. In such a circumstance, it simply means that for every day that she does not go to work, there is no income. This is the stark reality especially in a case where she is not allowed to take her child (or children) to work for various reasons.

As a result of such factors, most single mothers are left with no other way out except to leave the poor child with a nanny or in the hands of a trusted relative. For the various nannies and day care centers, the struggling single mother will have to cough out considerable amount of money for those that are helping her with taking care of the child. Thus, her life will be a sort of a triangle; she dashes from home to the day care home back to work and the same on her way back-quite hectic.

Problems of Working Women

According to a wise Chinese saying, educate the man and you have educated one individual, but educate a woman and you have educated a whole nation. This is to elucidate the very important role that a woman has to play in the development and growth of a nation in particular and the whole world in general. In the modern world, women contribute as much, if not far more than their female counterparts in various facets of life.

But the fact is that even with these, women are still under-rated, overlooked and not very much appreciated in various parts of the world. As if that is enough, there is the ugly practice of gender discrimination in various places of work and this is a source of conflict in many places of work. In addition, some working women have been subjected to sexual harassment while working. Most of the time, lecherous bosses demand for illicit affairs in exchange for a pay rise, bonus or promotion at work. In fact, for those that resist such offers and make it to the very top of their careers through handwork, it is very common for the society to assassinate their character by saying that they slept their way to the top. These are some of the professional problems that women face in their various places of work.

Outside her place of work, the working woman also faces formidable challenges from the home front. If she has children and they are quite young, she has to find a way of ensuring that the children are adequately taken care of, this is not a simple thing to do and is even complicated if she is a single mother. Apart from the pressures of motherhood, she also has to fulfill her duties as a caring wife to the husband. Thus, a working woman has pressure piling from different directions.

Keeping the Kids Busy

By the very nature of the modern world, it has become imperative that most parents have to go to various places of work in order to raise income that will support them and their family. More importantly, they need money to raise their children. Therefore, there are times when parents will be away from home understandably in search of daily bread.

However, that you are not at home with the children may simply mean boredom for your kids. Because of the lively and energetic nature of kids, boredom is a very unpleasant experience. Therefore, you must put in the necessary measures in place to ensure that they are never bored. In other words, you must find a way to keep the kids busy.

One way to do this is to keep them with a caregiver in a local day care center where they can play with their little friends. Even more likely, they can make use of the swings, see-saws and other recreational facilities that may be present or available at the day care center. This will keep them busy until you are around. However, in a case where this may not be possible, what you can do is to buy them interesting toys and dolls that they can play with. It will do you a lot of good to buy them the ones that will stimulate their creativity and keep them engaged for hours. The world-famous Lego Bricks are very good in this regard. You can also purchase some Fisher-Price and Playmobil toys for them to play with. Once little children have something that can play with or something that will catch their fancy, they will be engaged. Apart from this, there are times when you return from work and you need that rest badly. It will be very wise to keep them busy by bringing out the Lego Bricks pack or switching on the television set to their favorite channel perhaps Cartoon Network.

Easy Jobs for Working Moms

Being a mother is never very easy although it can be very interesting. In a world like ours where many governments have failed to meet the basic needs of billions, it becomes important that individuals fend for themselves. Thus, it is common to see women in their billions doing one work or the other so as to supplement the family income, send their children to school and take care of themselves, especially in a case where the husband is not too financially strong.

However, for many female professionals, they make enough money at the expense of their family. They include freelance jobs where you can offer your services as a data entry specialist, writer, editor, programmer and web designer. If you cannot access the Net, then you can set up businesses at home and one good example of this is a travel agency.
