Being a parent can be very challenging and strenuous. This is usually not due to anything but your children who are always at your neck demanding for this and that. It is normal for a child to make demands from the parent and it is left to the parent to figure out a way to meet such requests.
To meet the numerous demands of your child can take on various shapes. The younger the child, the less the quantity and amount of materials demanded. Thus, if you have a child that is aged three, you can be quite sure that the demand for an Apple iPhone will not arise anytime soon. But the same thing cannot be said of a son that is in the teenage. A teenager can make all sorts of demands, ranging from an MP3 player to a brand new car! Kids are never tired of collecting.
As a parent, you have a duty to meet the needs of your child. However, this is not to say that you have to make your child useless and irresponsible. The point that is being made here is that it is not all requests that you grant. You will grant some, delay some and ignore or flatly turn down others.
To make the distinction may not be that straightforward. But, if your child can prove to you beyond every reasonable doubt that he needs a new pair of sneakers, it will be unfair on your own part to turn down the request. But if the request cannot be defended or you find it outrageous, calmly turn down the request. You may offer some other thing instead but you must always let him understand your decision.
